Two more Erin staff members may have been fired just days following a corporate restructuring that left three town employees without a job.
But town officials will not confirm or deny any additional layoffs.
On July 17 Erin CAO Nathan Hyde stated three non-management employees “left the corporation” as a result of a “strategic realignment” that affected 40 per cent of the town’s workforce and reduced “layers of staff” from seven to four.
The names of the employees were not released, nor were their positions or departments.
A source with knowledge of the situation told the Advertiser two additional town employees were dismissed within eight days of the original restructuring announcement on July 13.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, could not confirm the alleged additional firings were part of the restructuring.
Erin Mayor Allan Alls said on July 24 he is “unaware” of more layoffs and “I don’t believe the status of the other two (employees) at this stage of the game.”
“Council’s not commenting. It’s in (Hyde’s) hands to handle this,” Alls said in an interview.
In a July 25 email response to several requests for clarification, Hyde would not comment on the possibility of additional firings.
“As stated previously, a total of three employees were exited from the corporation due to the town’s recent strategic realignment,” Hyde wrote.
Beyond that, he added, “the town does not comment on the employment of individual employees.”
The CAO concluded, “I trust this addresses whatever remaining questions you might have. The Town will not be providing further comment on this matter.”
Hyde did, however, provide information about the number of town employees, which the Advertiser had requested a week prior to his email response.
“Prior to the strategic realignment, the town employed 33 permanent full-time employees” and “29 permanent part-time employees,” Hyde stated.
Those numbers remain unchanged “post realignment,” he added.
At the time of the restructuring, the town posted five new full-time positions on its website: a deputy clerk, communications and special projects officer, human resource and administration assistant, internal audit and risk management analyst, and payroll and finance administrator.
